Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas – countryside, a mountain of food and festive films –
will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer.

Then Gwen wakes up to discover it’s Christmas day all over again. Like Groundhog Day but with turkey. And family arguments. On repeat.

As she figures out how to escape her own particular Christmas hell, Dev is the one bright spot. He might be all grown-up but underneath he’s just as kind and funny as she remembers.

Maybe, just maybe, her heart can be mended after all.

But how do you fall in love with someone who can’t remember you from one day to the next?

My Review

I was lucky enough to be given this book to review.  I must admit that I’ve not read many books by this author, despite seeing her books around all the time!  I’ve really enjoyed this book, so I’ve now made a list of her other books so I can catch up on them all!  This is a truly festive read, with an added unexpected twist in the tale!  Gwen is spending Christmas at her parents, as she does every year.  This year is slightly different though as she’s been dumped by her boyfriend, and she has trouble at work!  Along with her cousin Manny and sister Cerys (not forgetting her oafish husband and two children), Christmas with the folks doesn’t quite turn out as planned.  When Gwen wakes up the next morning and it’s back to being Christmas Day again and again, she has to work out how to stop this Groundhog Day feeling…

This was a great read!  I immediately connected with Gwen and Manny’s characters whilst they were driving home for Christmas.  A book that has me laughing in the first chapter has to be a winner, and it didn’t stop there as the funny moments just kept coming!  The author’s portrayal of a family Christmas will resonate so much with all who read, and the author has done a fabulous job of keeping the storyline genuine, light-hearted and yet filled with emotion as well.  I was completely hooked only a few chapters in and was settling down to what I thought was a seasonal romantic read!  The twist in the story, when Christmas Day just keeps repeating itself for Gwen, was completely unexpected, but fitted in so well!  I loved the Groundhog Day scenario, and when Gwen worked out that she needed to fulfil a specific Christmas wish for her life to return to normal, I wondered along with her whose wish it would be!

The storyline was wonderful – well paced, light-hearted and entertaining!  It also had some emotional and tender moments, with Gwen trying to fulfil her family’s wishes, and loved how she got to learn so much more about her family and in doing so brought them all closer together!  Of course, there is an element of romance, and we are given a couple of likely interests for Gwen, and it was lovely to follow her storyline with these.  I loved reading this book and found myself connecting with all the characters right from the beginning.  It’s a story filled with enlightenment, learning, family, friends and of course love!  A fabulously festive read, grab a blanket and a glass of mulled wine and settle on in!
