Sometimes there is only one course of action…
When intruders enter a radio station and kill a famed presenter it sets in motion a chain of events that will push the Metropolitan Police to their limits.
Officers Hayes and Miller are on the trail of a suspect and when Eric Helsey is detained, the police realise they have arrested the wrong man.
As the case grows more complicated with each revelation, and the body count rises, they find themselves investigating a series of crimes, all of which may be linked.
But what ties the murder of the radio host with a Turkish casino owner and the killing of two employees at a valve factory?
Hayes and Miller find themselves in a race against time to get to the truth before more people are hurt…
I have to admit this was a new author for me and I was intrigued to read it not just for the gripping plotline but also for the striking cover! We are introduced to two police officers, DI Amanda Hayes and DS Rachel Miller who are tasked with investigating the deaths of three people at a radio station. The story grabs you right from the beginning and from those first few pages you are taken on an adrenaline fuelled ride right through to its exciting conclusion. There isn’t much in the way of clues for the two detectives to go on, but as the story moves on you begin form a list of suspects yourself! There are certainly plenty of people to choose from, especially when the story takes us into the shady underworld of a local gangster!
I really liked the two main characters and thought they worked really well together. Their banter was amusing at times and I liked seeing a little bit of their personal lives being brought into the storyline. All of the characters were believable and well placed, with each of them adding their own something to the book. This was definitely a fast paced read with lots of twists and turns to keep you on your toes, making sure once you picked it up you won’t put it down until you’ve finished it. It is full of thrills and spills, with plenty of gruesome action and bad guys galore. I shall definitely be looking out for more by this author, and I can’t wait to see if there is another book after this to pick up Hayes and Miller’s story again! Would definitely recommend!
Duncan Brockwell is also the author of The Met Murder Investigations and the stand-alone psychological thriller, Mr Invisible. The Hard Way is a truly unmissable crime thriller, which is the perfect read for fans of authors like M.W. Craven, JD Kirk and Charlie Gallagher.
