For nurse Jenny Hallam, there’s no such thing as a quiet day (or night) at work. But even with WWII rumbling away, Jenny still has time, patience and kindness for everyone she treats, with plenty to spare for her two young children at home.

From his sickbed, handsome but shy Pilot Officer Will Rose has noticed Jenny’s gentle ways. When the two of them spark up a conversation, a friendship blossoms that brings out a new hope in them both.

Friendship is all their connection can be for now – but nothing stays the same in the war… What might happen if they were to meet again?

This is the perfect introduction Cathy Bramley’s stories or a lovely treat for longtime fans. Also includes a gorgeous taster of her upcoming novel, A Patchwork Family!

My Review

A delightful short story from the equally delightful Cathy Bramley.  This bite size book also gives us a taster of the new series from this author, A Patchwork Family, at the back of the book!  This story, based during WWII, introduces us to Nurse Jenny Hallam.  Her husband is away at war, and Jenny has to look after their two children as well as working at the local hospital tending to some of the wounded men sent home.  Here she meets handsome Pilot Officer Will Rose, and whilst all they can be are friends, what would happen if they were to meet again….

I love books based during the war, so was excited to see this short story was set during this time.  The cover of the book was also very attractive, and even if it wasn’t by this author (whose books I wouldn’t miss for the world!) I would have been tempted by it on just the cover alone!  It was the perfect little read to wet my taste buds for the new series and to be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve read a book by this author so it was fabulous to get back into one of her books again!

The story was lovely and heart-warming and, whilst it wasn’t a very long book it grabbed me straight away and I connected with the characters immediately!  For an hour or so I forgot where I was and what I was supposed to be doing while I escaped into Jenny Hallam’s life!  A perfect short read which has got me waiting on tenterhooks for the new series which is due out in August 2019!  Would definitely recommend!
