Kate Clothier is leading a double life: a successful jet-setting businesswoman to the outside world, but behind closed doors, life with Daniel and his volcanic temper is anything but rosy.
Some days – heck, make that EVERY day – cake is her only salvation.
Slowly but surely, the cities she visits – and the men she meets – help her to realise there IS a better future.
And the ley lines of Glastonbury are certainly doing their best to impart their mystical wisdom…
But will she escape before it’s too late?
Nothing appeals to me more than a book with references to cakes! I have to admit though, I probably wouldn’t have chosen to read this book if I wasn’t doing the blog tour! Nothing to do with the book or story but the title, for me, just doesn’t really do anything and I didn’t quite get it. But, on the plus side, it did mention cake, so perhaps I shouldn’t be too picky!
The book is about jet-setter Kate. On the outside she is a successful business woman travelling the world. On the inside, she is a victim of domestic violence by her boyfriend Daniel. Kate’s character certainly goes to show that you cannot tell what goes on behind closed doors.
It did take me a little while to get into this book, but once I did it the storyline had me gripped. It’s not all doom and gloom and there were some funny moments to lighten the mood. I certainly felt for Kate’s character taking the abuse that her boyfriend Daniel gives. There are two kinds of victims – those who leave and those who stay. Unfortunately Kate is one of those who stays, not realising that things with Daniel will never get better. I have to admit, I did want to shake her at times to tell her to just leave him!
This was a sensitively written book, broaching on a difficult and taboo subject. The author though has written it in a way so that all the ‘bad things’ don’t overpower all the ‘good things’! A story with a powerful message…..and of course plenty of cake!
Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalucia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the sea and the mountains. When she isn’t having her cake and eating it, sampling a new cocktail on the beach, or ferrying her children to and from after school activities, she can usually be found writing. As a co-founder and a former contributing writer for the popular online women’s magazine, The Glass House Girls – http://www.theglasshousegirls.com – she has also been lucky enough to subject the digital world to her other favourite pastimes, travel, the Law of Attraction, and Prince (The Purple One). She has recently become a Book Fairy, and is having lots of fun with her imaginative ‘drops’! Costa del Churros is her third novel with Crooked Cat Books, following on from the hit sensations, Oh! What a Pavlova and The Cocktail Bar.
